OUTINGS & EVENTS
Outings are arranged for the 4th Thursday of the month or on arrangement. Outings are at member's own expense and require confirmation of attendance, which can be done directly with the group leader or by emailing email@example.com
Please also see our Guest Speakers, Movies and Theatre page for details on those activities!
Outings Planned for 2019
Below is a tentative list that our wonderful Outings Group is arranging for 2019. Everyone is welcome!
Details will be further updated as they are confirmed.
Please keep 20th June free for a Special General Meeting and our In Celebration Guest Speakers Event. More details coming soon.
(Please note Tuesday) Tuesday Jun 25 –Airways Museum at Essendon Airport & lunch at Skyways Airport West http://www.airwaysmuseum.com/
Self drive, cost to be confirmed depending on numbers attending (Lesley)
This is a aviation museum with a difference; it has no aircraft on display! Instead it traces the history of Australia's civil aviation and its development from the 1920's to the current time through numerous artefacts and photographs. Much of the material on display has been superseded and without a museum such as this, it would likely be lost for ever. The exhibits include examples of aviation related equipment and items, such as uniforms, commonly used in the past. In addition, the museum focuses on a number of local innovations and inventions that have had significant international aviation recognition.
This will be a self-drive outing with a planned arrival time of 10:30. We will be shown the film Flight Plan and then given a guided tour of the museum. Morning tea is provided for a gold coin donation.
To help you make your decision to join the outing you may like to take the following information into consideration. Access to the museum is down four steps and there is a handrail. Access to the toilet is up a flight of approximately 14 stairs.
After our visit to the museum, for those who wish to have lunch, I will make a reservation at the Skyways Hotel, Matthews Avenue. Lunch is at your own expense.
The museum entrance is located behind Wirraway Road, Essendon Airport.
Thursday June 27th - Lunch at the Galli Estate
During this month of June, the 4th Thursday outing is taking place on a Tuesday instead (since the destination is not open on a Thursday). So that we do not have an "empty" 4th Thursday we have booked lunch at Galli Estate (on Melton Highway) for 12:30. We have made the booking for 20 but this can be varied up or down depending on responses.
Galli provide a range of lunch options including several at $13.90 as follows:
5 SEED CHICKEN
Chicken breast coated with white Chia, black Chia, flaxseed,
white sesame seeds and black sesame seeds. Served with
potatoes and vegetables.
Deep fried calamari rings sitting on a garden salad with a home
made dressing and a garlic dipping sauce.
BANGERS & MASH
Sausages sitting on a bed of mash and served with on onion sauce.
GALLI CAESAR SALAD
Galli Caesar salad topped with your choice of Cajun spiced chicken
or beer battered fish.
VEGETARIAN RICE PATTIES
Vegetarian rice patties served with salad and Napoli sauce.
FISH & CHIPS
Beer battered fish served with chips, salad and aioli.
PASTA OF THE DAY
Please ask waiting staff for today’s pasta.
This is also a good opportunity to get together to celebrate end of term. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call Marlene on 97444848 or for those attending Thursday morning speakers this week (and this one should not be missed) please indicate your interest by signing the book on the appropriate page. Also indicate whether you need a lift and we will organise some car pooling. If there is enough interest we can think about organising a 4th Thursday lunch for anyone who does not want to go on the organised outing. How about we all discuss this over lunch at Galli. Thanks everyone.

Aug 22 - Old Melbourne Gaol & Historical Crimes Walking Tour
We are trying to do something a little different by tying in the subject of the Guest Speaker and continuing the theme by going on a suitable outing. In August our Guest Speaker Stuart Duff is going to talk about the History of the Victorian Police. Our August outing would continue that theme by going in the morning to the Old Melbourne Gaol, have lunch at the Coopers Inn and then go on the Melbourne Historical Crime Tour. Members if they are interested could do both or just do the Old Melbourne Gaol and lunch or just do the afternoon with lunch and the Historical Crimes Tour. The Historical Crimes Tours rates very highly. It would be the Gangsters, Brothels and Lolly Shops tour c. 1850's - 1930's. Area to be covered is confined by Spring St, Russell St, Lonsdale St and La Trobe St. I have made tentative bookings but I need input from those who might be interested to see if it is worth continuing. Can you let me know either by responding to this email or calling Marlene on 9744 4848. Please be aware that our outings/ Guest Speakers Group would love to hear from members with any ideas for future outings and speakers.
