Scrabble - Mondays 10am-12 noon at Bldg. 27. If you are looking for fun, friendship and laughter come and join us. We play in groups of four or three dependent on number of members present. This game keeps our minds active and improves our spelling. Group Leaders: Robin or Ruth
Bridge - Mondays 1-4pm at Footy Club. Nothing improves the mind more than the challenge of a good game of Bridge in the pleasant company of like-minded enthusiastic players. All levels welcome, including beginners, with assistance given. Venue Footy Club. Group Leaders: Maureen and Terry
Beginners French - Mondays 2-4pm at Bldg. 27. This group runs weekly during school terms, though not everyone can make it every week, and that's ok! Based on the "15 Minute French" book - topics such as introductions, family, eating and drinking, getting about etc. - we cover basic French grammar and phrases suitable for travellers. Cryptic Crosswords - 1st and 3rd Tuesdays 10:00 - 11:30am at the Footy Club. Come and exercise your brain and discover some of the mysteries behind cryptic crossword clues. They’re not so hard once you know how! We work together as a team on cryptic crosswords and help each other to learn some of the tricks. Group Leader: Jo
German Conversation - Tuesdays 1:30-3pm Bldg. 27. Anyone joining this group would need to have experienced the German language, either in childhood, or having learnt German at school. Some basic vocabulary and comprehension of sentence construction would be an advantage. Come along have fun and enjoy reminiscing in pleasant company and improve your German too. Group Leader: Joe
Mah-jong - Tuesdays 2-4pm at Senior Citizens Hall. Mah-jong is a game that originated in China, commonly played with 4 players (some 3 player variations). Mah-jong is a game of skill, strategy and calculation with a degree of chance involved. Come along and join us, meet new people and have fun. Group Leader: Dorothy
Canasta - Tuesdays 1:30-4pm at Bldg. 27. Enjoy a game of Canasta with this friendly group - both singles and doubles can be played. We essentially follow the traditional rules of Canasta as outlined by Hoyle. Group Leader: Jill
Conversational Italian - Tuesdays 2pm-4pm Footy Club. A friendly and casual opportunity to improve your skills for people with some existing knowledge of Italian. Group Leader Nina.
Walking Group - Wednesdays 9-10.30am. Meet on gravel area inside entrance to Clarke Oval by the Bowling Club in Riddell Road. Roam the walking paths of Sunbury whilst getting fit and having fun. Come along. Group Leader: Rosemarie
French Conversation - Wednesdays 12:30-2:45pm at Bldg. 27. The French Conversation group is a venue to practise, once basics are learnt. We all help each other as no one has a monopoly in French grammar. We cover the various aspects of language, including grammar as we are always in need of revision and activities are varied and try to cater for different levels of expertise. Group Leader: Jenny
Guest Speakers Group - 1st and 3rd Thursdays 10-11:45 am at Footy Club. An interesting variety of Speakers are invited to address the group, to share their knowledge, thoughts and expertise. We have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss chosen topics and we have time over morning tea to meet with new and old friends. Occasionally a Quiz Morning. Group Leaders: A 4 person committee.
Ballroom and New Vogue Dancing - Thursdays 1-3pm at Rainbow Court Hall. Dancing is learnt in a very casual atmosphere, with the aim being to have fun, enjoy each other's company and generally have a good time. Anyone who dances or would like to learn to dance are welcome. We try to balance learning the basic and easy dances with more advanced dances too. We would love to see some new faces and everyone is welcome. Group Leaders: Margaret and Michael
Morning Musicals - 2nd Thursday of month 10:00am start at the Footy Club. Once a month we show a musical movie: old or new, movie or concert, anything that revolves around music. Group Leaders: Marlene & Trev
Book to DVD Club - Thursday afternoons on arrangement at the Footy Club. The group is restricted to 10 members due to availability of library books. If you like to read all types of books and then see the DVD of the same book this group is for you. We have fun, with interesting and insightful discussion. If you would call yourself a bookworm come and join us. Group Leader: Marlene
Philosophy - 1st and 3rd Fridays 10-11:30am at the Footy Club. The philosophy course offers a group discussion following an audio lecture, presented by a philosophy professor. It covers much of the history of the great thinkers of morality, but always keeps one eye focused on practice. The course assists the group to become familiar with ethics, and helps confront its own moral prejudices and hypocrisies. Group Leader: John
The Ageing Brain - 2nd and 4th Fridays 10-11:30am at the Footy Club. This course comprises a group discussion following 12 half hour audio lectures by a professor in the Psychology Department of the University of Michigan (USA). Topics include the function and structure of the ageing brain & mind, emotional ageing, memory, dementia, Alzheimer's & Parkinson's disease, diet, stress and exercise & generally ageing well. Dining Out - 4th Friday of the month during school terms or on arrangement. All members are welcome. A casual social group that shares a friendly meal at various restaurants in Sunbury and surrounds. Most events are in the evenings, but we may occasionally arrange a lunch (refer the Current Happenings page for the next dining event). Group Leader: Jill
Movie Club - We meet at the Sunbury Readings Cinema, normally on a Tuesday morning whenever there is a movie that sounds interesting or a movie that a group of members would like to see. All members are welcome. Afterwards some of us go to lunch at a nearby restaurant. The aim is to enjoy each other's company, see a good movie and spend time enjoying our lunch and discussing the movie. Group Leaders: Marlene and Trev
